Person visited neonatal units before TB diagnosis

(AP) ? Health officials say a person with an active case of tuberculosis who visited two Northern California neonatal intensive care units had a valid reason to be there and had not been diagnosed at the time.

Little information has been released about the contagious individual, who was not a hospital employee. The person has since been placed in isolation and is receiving treatment.

Officials have cited privacy laws in not offering more details.

The Solano County resident visited Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento during the latter half of March and NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield in early and mid-April.

Initially a total of 35 babies were thought to have been exposed at the two hospitals to the sometimes fatal respiratory disease, but officials lowered their estimate to 26 at most.
