September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and in order to spread awareness of this treatable disease, Dr. Kevin Blumenthal will be giving a free seminar on prostate cancer.
On Tuesday, September 27th from 6-7pm Dr. Kevin Blumenthal of the Central Maryland Urology HIFU Center will be hosting a free seminar on prostate cancer entitled ?HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound); A Minimally Invasive Treatment for Prostate Cancer? in downtown Washington, DC.
The seminar will go over several topics regarding prostate cancer: screening recommendations, what symptoms you should not ignore, and the latest innovative treatment for prostate cancer, HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound). HIFU is a state-of-the-art treatment option for prostate cancer that uses sound waves to destroy cancer while preventing damage to the healthy surrounding tissue.? HIFU is radiation-free, non-surgical, and performed as an outpatient procedure with little to no blood loss.? And, HIFU has been shown to have less side effects such as erectile dysfunction (ED) and urinary incontinence. It is important for patients with prostate cancer to be aware that there is another option besides the traditional methods of surgery and radiation.

Kevin B. Blumenthal, M.D. graduated from the University of Virginia in 1998 and received his Doctorate of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 2003. Dr. Blumenthal completed his urologic residency at George Washington University in 2009.
Dr. Blumenthal has several areas of interest to include complex kidney stone management and innovative prostate treatments and procedures for men with voiding dysfunction (BPH). Additionally, he is one of a few urologists in the Mid-Atlantic region certified in HIFU (ultrasonic treatment of prostate cancer).
