City gives two Belltown businesses grants to improve technology ...

Last week, Mayor McGinn announced Belltown?s Plymouth Housing Group and Year Up Puget Sound location were selected to receive grants through Seattle?s Technology Matching Fund program.

The city awarded $320,000 in technology grants to 23 community projects to close the digital divide and increase public engagement according to the Technology Matching Fund Projects website.

Plymouth Housing Group received $3,600 to upgrade computers in their computer resource center and expand programming to involve low income tenants.

Group Plymouth Housing Group?s mission statement: ?Group Plymouth Housing Group works to eliminate homelessness and stabilize homeless and very low-income people in housing by preserving, developing and operating safe, decent, affordable housing, and by providing opportunities for homeless and very low-income people to improve their lives.?

Plymouth Housing Group is seeking volunteers and donations, see how you can help here.

Year Up?s Puget Sound location received $16,000 to provide low income students with technology training that will prepare them with skills necessary for entry level, livable wage work, help them earn community college credit, and earn a six month internships in the Puget Sound region.

Year Up?s Mission Statement: ?To close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.?

Also receiving a grant is the YMCA?s Metrocenter Branch in downtown Seattle.
