Elliot Lake mayor declares state of emergency after mall roof collapse

Elliot Lake Mayor Rick Hamilton declared a state of local emergency at 3:55 p.m.in accordance with the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act, due to a roof collapse at the Algo Centre Mall.

An information centre has been set up at the Collins Hall on Hillside Drive North in Elliot Lake. Anyone with inquiries should attend the information centre.

East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police and Emergency Services are on the scene at the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake after part of the roof of the shopping centre collapsed.

Police received a call at 2:19 p.m., but are not able to provide information about injuries or missing persons, they say.

Police ask the public to refrain from attending the area. If you are missing someone, call 1-888-310-1122.
