Thomas Oakes went to Nicaraguato experience and learn from other ceramic artisans in their communities.? For two weeks he learned first hand about ceramic water filters and partnering with others. His time was spent learning and working in several ceramic water filter factories, sharing artisan techniques among different villages, and providing help in building a kiln to make filters with a small community of women artists.

During the trip he experienced how accountability to others can be a difficult, yet a wonderful way to walk along side someone in need. He is quoted saying ?I have understood, but now more clearly know, ?water is a human right?. Ceramic water filters are meeting people in their need around the world?.

This brigade trip was with Potters for Peace (http://www.pottersforpeace.org/) a non-profit organization that has provided dozens of developing nations tools to create ceramic water filters. The water filters have proven to purify over 99% for decades. As an instructor and ceramic artist at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center; Thomas invites you to hear more about this experience.
