Assad: There is no civil war in Syria

BEIRUT (AP) ? Syria's president insists there is no civil war in his country ? rather, a new kind of battle he calls "terrorism through proxies."

Bashar Assad acknowledged his troops are fighting a "tough war and a difficult war," adding that when foreign countries stop sending arms to rebels, "I can tell (you) that in weeks we can finish everything."

In an interview with the English-language Russia Today TV, Assad said he does not regret any decision he made since March 2011, when the uprising against his government began.

Assad spoke in English in the interview. It was broadcast in full on Friday.

Sophie Shevarnadze, the journalist who conducted the 26-minute interview, said during the broadcast that she met Assad in a "newly renovated" presidential palace in Damascus.

Classic Karateka game coming to iOS

As any retro gaming aficionado will tell you, Karateka is a classic even among classics. It was built on an Apple II computer by Jordan Mechner and released in 1984. And now it's coming to iOS. The goal is still to save Mariko from the evil Warlord Akuma, but instead of one hero with one life, you now get three heroes with one life each, including the True Love, the Monk, and the Brute. According to Samit Sakar at Polygon:

Player skill comes in during combat. Instead of forcing players to learn complex button inputs, Liquid implemented a unique rhythm-based combat system. You'll have to time your attacks to the score from Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin; Mechner characterized the setup as a cross between Guitar Hero and a conventional fighting game. According to Mechner, "This rhythm-based combat mechanic translated really well to iOS," a version that's simpler than the console and PC experiences but still offers most of the same features.

Art design was by Jeff Matsuda, who designed the Jackie Chan and The Batman cartoons, and worked on comic books at both Image and Marvel. The video above was made by Adam Lisagor, of course.

I'm not typically a fan of remakes. It's incredibly hard to improve on the originals, especially the classics, and if not done well you get... most of what's coming out of Hollywood these days. So consider me skeptical unless and until the new Karate proves me wrong.

Karateka is available on XBox Live Arcade now for $10, and is coming later this month to Steam and PlayStation Network for $9.99, and iOS for a price to be set later.

Florida Mortgage Delinquency Chart

Over 1 in 6 Florida Mortgages are Behind on Payments!

Why are so many home owners in Florida behind on mortgage payments? ??I believe its due to several factors:

  1. Tops in underwater home owners: ?The more home owners underwater, the more home owners attempting to refi, apply for one of the many jokes of government assistance, short sale, etc. ?Read Negative Equity is the Number 1 Reason for Default.
  2. Requirement to be delinquent for modification: ?That?s right, most of the ?help? available to home owners struggling to make payments REQUIRE a home owner to be behind on payments. ?Crazy, but true. ?
  3. Requirement to be delinquent for short sale: ?That?s right again, most of the banks and investors (including our government Fannie and Freddie) have required home owners to be late on payments in order to short sale. ? Will they accept a short sale if you are current on payments? ?Yes, but the successful sales I?ve had with owners being current have all had mothers born in Ireland on a Tuesday. ?AKA ? slim chance. ?
  4. Strategic Default: ?Home owners attempt to refi. ?They attempt to have the principal balance reduced. ?They try to work with the bank, but they get nothing but months and sometimes years of misled information, the run around, the red tape, the nightmare that never ends. ?At some point the home owners realize the banks are a business and don?t ?care about them?. ? They finally realize this! ?Now the home owner starts thinking like a business person?themselves, so they make the decision to take their financial future in their own hands and default on the mortgage. ?Get to this point, and you should short sale!
